Tips On Custom Clear Stickers and How to Apply Them Right

09/30/2019

Clear, transparent labels are great attention catchers. You can affix them on shop windows, on the interior of your car's windshield and on containers. The base is usually made of transparent vinyl on which the design is printed. It is customary to have a white opaque ink behind the coloured design or lettering to make such design or lettering stand out. You can have custom clear stickers prepared, even with reverse printing, and use them for branding and promotion. However, you do need to exercise caution when you affix the sticker because air bubbles and blemishes are more visible if it is not done right.

Tips on designing custom clear stickers

Before you proceed to the section on how to affix stickers here is a brief rundown on designing custom clear stickers:

  • Know about the printing process employed by the sticker make. This again will depend on the quantity. If you are ordering low quantity then the printer may use a solvent-based inkjet type printer and if you are ordering in bulk they may use offset or screen printing method. If it is inkjet then you can have halftones in your design. If it is screen printing then it is best to have areas of solid color.
  • Leave adequate margins around the design so that the sticker has adequate area with sticker gum.
  • Opt for reverse printing, if you plan to stick the sticker to a shop window. It is better to stick it from the inside to prevent damage.

Once you receive the stickers it is time to affix them to the inside or outside of glass windows or windshields. This is how you go about it.

Clean the surface

The surface to which you will affix the sticker must be free of oils, greases, and grime. Clean with detergent and dry thoroughly. Moisture may inhibit proper sticking. It is advisable to wear gloves when you start the process of affixing the sticker.

Affixing the sticker

  • Peel off the backing. Hold the sticker close to the edge and avoid touching the glue surface. Oil on your fingertips will be transferred to the sticker adhesive and fingerprints will show. The oil prevents proper adhesion so you have two reasons to be careful. Go slow.
  • Align the sticker.
  • Apply one edge while holding up the sticker away from the glass surface.
  • Hold it at an angle and gently lower it while with your other hand you press down evenly.
  • Make sure you do not allow air pockets to remain inside the surfaces. These air pockets will give a blistered appearance.
  • If by chance an air bubble is included then you can use a pin to prick the bubble and then you can tamp down on the sticker.
  • Once the sticker is in place apply pressure by rubbing it with your thumb or a thick card.

It is simple once you get the hang of it. You can order custom clear stickers from Stickers n Things for branding and promotion purposes or for use at home.
